The balance, beauty and intricate detail of early Chinese Ritual Bronze Vessels has always been of great interest to Hannah and it was the study of these pieces that first lead her to work with clay and she still finds time to return to this preoccupation, to create one off pieces that are usually made especially for exhibition. They are always unique, often tripods and very much reflect Hannah’s interest in antiquities.

Designs used at the pottery continually change and grow with the development of sgraffito decoration, using interlocking spirals developed directly from a visit to Newgrange (prehistoric sacred site in Co. Meath). “I have recently developed the use of figurative imagery from Celtic design birds and animals into more abstracted patterns of plant forms. Celtic knot work with its use of spirals remains an important cultural motif for the Irish, a hypnotic and mysterious connection to our ancestry.” The work continues to change as ideas and designs develop, the latest being “Cathedral” showing the architectural interplay of the cathedral roof, arches and trusses.
