Our functional ceramics

Ballymorris Pottery creates beautiful handmade stoneware ceramics, high fired for strength and durability. The range of work is extensive, due partly to the fact that Hannah Arnup also studied sculpture, making the skills available to the business much broader than usual for a country pottery.
Designs used at the pottery continually change and grow with the development of sgraffito decoration, using interlocking spirals developed directly from a visit to Newgrange (prehistoric sacred site in Co. Meath). “I have recently developed the use of figurative imagery from Celtic design birds and animals into more abstracted patterns of plant forms. Celtic knot work with its use of spirals remains an important cultural motif for the Irish, a hypnotic and mysterious connection to our ancestry.” The work continues to change as ideas and designs develop, the latest being “Cathedral” showing the architectural interplay of the cathedral roof, arches and trusses.

There is a large choice of functional ware so you can individualise your order or dinner service to your needs, be it a gift or a treat for yourself.  Most of this functional range can also be personalised with names or motifs. See the Personalised pages for examples.

Being high fired makes it visually beautiful but also very functional as it is oven, microwave and dishwasher proof.

Colour ranges available include: Green, Cobalt Blue, Shiny Lilac, White and Cream.
Black, White and Ash Blue ranges can be made to order.
Examples seen in this website are a small selection of what is available directly from the workshop. If you have specific requirements Contact us to talk through ideas and receive images of new pieces.
