Functional Ceramics

Ballymorris Pottery creates beautiful handmade stoneware ceramics, high fired for strength and durability. The range of work is extensive, due partly to the fact that Hannah Arnup also studied sculpture, making the skills available to the business much broader than the usual country pottery.

There is a large choice of functional ware available, and with only a small selection available on-line you can always contact us directly with questions and ideas so you can individualise your order or dinner service to your needs, be it a gift or a treat for yourself.
Most of this functional range can also be personalised with names or motifs. See the Personalised pages for examples.
Being high fired stoneware pottery it visually beautiful but also very functional. It is oven, microwave and dishwasher proof.

The plates and bowls become a canvas for Hannah to indulge in her one off designs, these designs continually change and evolve with the use of sgraffito decoration, often using interlocking spirals developed directly from a visit to Newgrange (prehistoric sacred site in Co. Meath).
“I have recently developed the use of imagery from Celtic design, birds and animals, into more abstracted patterns of plant forms combined with organic spirals. I enjoy that Celtic knotwork, with its use of spirals, remains an important cultural motif for the Irish, a hypnotic and appealing connection to our ancestry.” Her work continues to change as ideas and designs develop; cathedrals with soaring arches and trusses or the seeming simply form of a leaf. Beautiful.

Colour ranges available include: Speckled Green, Cobalt Blue, Shiny Lilac, White and Cream.
Black, White and Dark Ash Blue items can be made to order.
